Growing into our Vision

Ambir continues to grow along our strategic trajectory and towards the vision of "Leading Atlantic Canada by delivering great IT solutions in the Flatworld®". This vision can be divided into its individual components as follows:

"Leading"

– leadership is key to our vision. Our goal is to demonstrate leadership in all that we do here at Ambir and to inspire others in our region to realize their potential, just as we realize our own. This means leadership in the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills (technology and process for example), leadership in our thoughts and opinions (speaking enagagements, media opportunities and even social gatherings), leadership in the way we do things (high quality and tied directly to our values), leadership through our collective work and life experiences & perspectives (technology, consulting and trends such as open source and globalization) and most importantly leadership through our people ... we hire the best and brightest within our region, who believe in what we are doing for our clients and for the region as a whole. Furthermore, our people will take on leadership roles within our communities, whether via professional organizations (such as the PMI and IIBA), school and sports associations, and/or in community/charitable initiatives.

"Atlantic Canada"

– this is where we live and work. We are committed to helping Atlantic Canada grow and prosper and to realize opportunities that will contribute to our long term sustainability in the world. In order to be successful in the future, we absolutely must not be entirely dependent on local clients and our local economy. We have worked hard to develop a very strong base of local clients. However, our local market will continue to change and evolve moving forward and they will seek to realize opportunities to work with global IT players. We need to be leaders providing strong value add in IT consulting and applications development for clients both locally and within our geographic target market (NE North America) and where, when and if it makes sense we will leverage professional resources from others parts of the globe (either because the client requests this or in order to find the right skills, availability or cost). In future we must realize client opportunities outside of Altantic Canada to complement our base here so that we have a net positive impact on our local economy and to contribute to our region’s goal of having a sustainable and thriving economy.

"by delivering Great IT Solutions"

– this is what we do, whether in the form of expert IT consulting or in the form of software/application development. We achieve this by applying the best people and skills/knowledge available and in a manner that is consistent with our values. Ambir has developed a reputation for this already within the region and we will build upon this, moving forward within Atlantic Canada and beyond, with lead clients outside of our region. Our ability to continue in this vein relates to the commitment our team members have to their ongoing professional development and our desire to impart our knowledge and experience to help our clients be successful in their IT initiatives.

"in the Flatworld®"

– this is about context and reminds us that our future depends on us establishing our place in the new world order. Global IT is still imperfect at best, however it improves every day and it is shifting, from the initial past decade where the major trend was to offshoring, to a position now where clients and vendors are finding their steady state. Therein lies the opportunity for a company like Ambir, based in Atlantic Canada, to add value in the IT delivery chain. It is not an "either/or" position that needs to be taken, with respect to Atlantic Canada and the rest of the world, but rather an "and" ... and here in Atlantic Canada we can be a very effective complement to Global IT providers and vice versa, if, when, and where it makes sense or is required. Our ability to win business beyond the borders of Atlantic Canada is a long term imperative for our region and something that must be accomplished in the coming years, not just by Ambir but by many of our local companies and industries.

A vision is a vivid image of a brighter future that can be articulated in 10 words or less. It is repeatable and consistent. A vision can fit on the back of a napkin. And consistently delivering a simple, memorable, and concise vision can make the difference between a successful business and a failing business. Ambir works closely with company adviser, Dr. Sampath of Arpitha Associates, to ensure effective value-vision alignment.

Leading business strategist and professor Peter Senge stated that "People sometimes say that it is pointless to develop a sense of purpose for a company. There already is a purpose: 'To maximize return on investment to shareholders.' Obviously, making money is important. But to confuse the essential requirement for advancing in the game with the deeper rationale is a profound confusion. Focusing on the purpose of making money at the expense of other purposes will naturally distract an organization's competitive advantage." Of course, making money is important for Ambir, both as an organization, and for all of the participating team members. However that is not the primary objective. Making money is a by-product of having a worthy vision, quality people, having a solid team culture, helping each other and our communities and a shared belief that what we are doing is worthwhile on many levels.
